Years ago, I invested heaps of money and time into “SEOing” my client’s sites.
It cost us a lot, and we had great results, until … “BOOM!” we got slapped by a Google update…
We lost tons of traffic overnight.
But here’s the crazy part:
I spent $0 and ZERO minutes on “SEOing” my personal blog. It was just a hobby site, not for traffic or money at all … but it began outperforming all my paid “SEO” client sites combined.
And then my little hobby blog really took off, getting RIDICULOUS traffic …
But why?
The more I looked into it, the more I realized how SEO really works, it’s not about the backlinks or the technical junk.
Google just wants to be the best search engine, so they will always aim to serve their searchers the best content. Backlinks should be a result of great content, not a cause.
**So it’s really about bringing VALUE to the people in your niche!**
So if you want to rock the SEO world and rake in traffic for your clients, you will need to start thinking more like Disney, MGM, New York Times, Buzzfeed, Pixar, etc.
But don’t overwhelm yourself.
To be clear: First and foremost you need to create VALUABLE content.
That’s the only real “trick” that will help you rake in the “SEO traffic” for your clients and stand the test of time.
So when creating content, always ask yourself: “Who the hell cares? So what? Is this something new for my niche? Will this really solve their problems? Am I annoying or helping the people in my niche?”
And what exactly is VALUE?
Money is valuable, yes … but that’s only ONE metric:
- People want their problems solved
- They want the pain to go away
- They want to fit in
- They want to care for their loved ones
- They want to grow
- They want to make a difference
- They want to make their parents proud
- They want want to reduce their anxiety and uncertainty
- They want to have a greater sense of freedom and control over their lives
- They want to be successful
(and so on)
So to add value, just help them get what they want.
Make sure your content aligns with your niche’s needs (focus on the searcher’s intent behind the keyword, not the keyword itself).
And if you want to double the value then be 2X specific.
And if you want to double the value again, cut out 50% of the filler. Don’t waste their time!
You can 2X the value again by making it more human, relatable and emotional 🙂
